FCTR(tm) AnyServ (v6.3)
What is it?

FCTR(tm) AnyServ is a nifty little service written in Visual C++ Win32 platforms. It's been tested under Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 6a). This service allows you to run ANY program (DOS, OS/2, Win16, Win32) that runs under Windows NT (or presumably 2000/XP) as a service.

What makes this program different from the free one that Microsoft gives away?

For starters, FCTR(tm) AnyServ is much easier to install and uninstall. FCTR(tm) AnyServ also ensures the program installed to run, keeps running. The Microsoft version doesn't keep track of the program installed to run, so if the installed program unexpectedly exits (the 16 bit programs tend to do this after a log-off), the service won't restart the installed program. If FCTR(tm) AnyServ detects the installed program has ended, FCTR(tm) AnyServ will automatically restart it.

FCTR(tm) AnyServ allows you to select the priority of the installed program, as well as set (re)startup delays and other process dependencies.

How much does it cost?

It doesn't cost anything to try, but if you use this program, please send US $25.00 to the address below. Registered users can set the service to Automatic.

If you've already purchased 4.x, then an upgrade to 6.x is only US $15.00. Please send your 4.x registration name and code for proper validation.

How do I install it?

Apparently, there is a problem with replacing system files using a setup program. If, during the setup of this program, you are prompted to replace system files, please decline. You must upgrade your operating system to the latest service pack. This can be done at:

Sadly, at this time, there is nothing I can do about this. Thank you, Microsoft.

Windows 95/98/NT users shouldn't have this problem and can safely answer "Yes" to replace system files, if prompted.

If you are a Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 user, make sure you are logged in with Administrator privileges. Once you've downloaded it, run FCTRSETUP.EXE. Internet Explorer users can "Run from this location".

How do I use it?

Once the setup has successfully completed, go to Start -> Programs -> FCTR -> Configure AnyServ.

How do I UNINSTALL it?

Why would you want to do that?

No, really. How do I UNINSTALL it?

Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. Double click on Add/Remove Programs. Select FCTR(tm) AnyServ and click Add/Remove... Click on OK.
